We provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space for pregnant and parenting people to talk about their thoughts and feelings. We treat each person with dignity and respect as they explore their options.

If you live in Oregon or Washington and would like to meet in person we have offices in Portland and Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington or we’ll come to you. We can also meet via Zoom. (OA&FS can place children in adoption up to the age of 3 1/2 years.)

Your pregnancy decision is a personal choice.

Only you can decide which choice is right for you. Whatever you decide, we’ll stand by you, offering our compassion, guidance and support. By exploring each pregnancy option thoroughly, you will gain clarity about what choice feels best to you.

How does counseling help?

Counseling offers you a safe place to explore all of your options. We’re here to empower you with the information you need to make the choice that feels best to you.

What makes us different from most adoption agencies is that we are here to support you no matter what decision you make. We are a non-profit, pro-choice agency not affiliated with any religion, and will treat you with dignity and respect.

What to expect in counseling.

An OA&FS counselor will listen and provide support as you consider each of your choices: parenting, abortion or adoption. You’ll explore questions like:

  • How would each choice affect my everyday life?
  • How do each of the choices fit with my values and beliefs?
  • What would each choice mean to the people closest to me?
  • Who can I count on to support me through this process?
  • What are my plans for the future?

Here’s how the OA&FS open adoption process works.

You meet and form a friendship with the family. We’re there to help you feel comfortable and get to know one another.

You and the adoptive parents create a legally enforceable contract for ongoing visits. All of the adoptive families we work with want a lifelong relationship with you. You get together much like an extended family.

Your child will grow up knowing who you are and that you love them.

We provide you with ongoing relationship guidance and adoption support as you navigate your open adoption relationship.

You’ll become an important part of our open adoption community, which is full of opportunities to connect with other birth parents through retreats, workshops, and gatherings. You can also volunteer to be a mentor.

All of our services are free of charge for expectant and birth parents.
