Thank you for reading our letter. We are Wayne and Electra, and we are so excited to welcome a child and their birth family into our lives!

We met in college in 2001 and have been together ever since, sharing our passions for travel, music, good food, and spending time with close friends. We are both originally from the East Coast (Pennsylvania and New York state), but we now live in Seattle with our cat Scout and our dog Juniata (also known as Junie or Junebug). We love living in the Pacific Northwest and have built a really fun life together here.

Electra’s full name is Anna Electra. She goes by Anna at work but all our friends and family know her as Electra. Electra’s parents are both from Argentina and she is fluent in Spanish. Electra works as a nurse-midwife, delivering babies (or, as she prefers to say, “catching” babies) at a busy Seattle hospital, and she thinks it is beyond cool that she gets to welcome new babies into the world every day. When she is not at work she can be found at home reading novels, catching up with good friends, and tending to our house and garden.

Wayne is a high school Latin teacher and loves teaching teenagers to read and enjoy 2,000-year-old poems—and to sing “Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer” in Latin. He has been playing guitar since high school and also noodles around with a banjo, a dobro, and a pedal steel guitar. Wayne is a huge baseball fan and still roots for his former home team, the Washington Nationals. Wayne can be found most summer weekends listening to Nats games on the radio and grilling meat for himself—and vegetarian food for Electra!

We are so fortunate to have a wonderful community of friends in Seattle. One of our greatest joys is spending time together with them and their kids. Whether it’s having summer cookouts in the backyard or hosting a big Thanksgiving dinner, nothing makes us happier than welcoming the people we love into our home. We also enjoy taking longer trips around the Pacific Northwest to camp, hike, or romp in the snow. We also travel to other countries when we can, visiting Electra’s extended family in Argentina or going to Italy where Wayne can poke around ancient ruins and drink espresso every day. We can’t wait to show our child what a big, wide, exciting world is out there, filled with our extended family of friends in Seattle as well as our families on the East Coast and in Argentina, and wherever their birth family might come from!

We are choosing open adoption because we want our child to know their whole story. We want them to learn compassion, joy, grace, and a welcoming spirit from all of the people who love them. We look forward to making new friendships with our child’s birth family and forming a lifelong connection with them. We value honesty and openness and we want our child to thrive knowing how loved they are by their whole family.

Thanks again for reading our letter!
