Paul and Sandra
Hello! We are Paul and Sandra. Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We believe open adoption is an excellent opportunity to welcome a child and a whole new family into our lives.
We met at a local Irish pub after a Sounders match in 2009. We initially bonded over small talk, but it was Paul’s solo break dancing on the empty dance floor that really got things started! As a true Colombian, Sandra loves dancing and by the end of the night, she joined Paul for a friendly dance competition. It did not take long for us to realize we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
Sandra is a school psychologist (working a school year schedule with summers off) supporting teachers and families of children with disabilities. Paul is an attorney working for the Department of Education helping protect the rights of students to an education without discrimination. Outside of work, we enjoy each other’s company in activities such as running, biking, skiing, traveling, movies, beach days, and, of course, Sounders matches. One of our favorite things to do is walk Henna, our white shepherd/husky mix.
Sandra grew up in Colombia, a place where time runs at a slower pace, and where friends and neighbors are like family. Sandra’s parents grew up in large families with limited means. However, through hard work and dedication, they provided their children many opportunities, including access to college. They taught Sandra to remember where she comes from, and to always appreciate what she has. Despite the distance, Sandra’s family continues to be a strong presence in her life.
Paul grew up in California. His parents, both teachers, always put a strong emphasis on education, which has been an important part of Paul’s life. Paul’s sister lives in London with her husband and three children who always look forward to seeing Uncle Paul. Paul’s family travels regularly to meet and are very close. One of the most rewarding experiences for Paul has been mentoring his “little brother” Josh through the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program. They met when Josh was seven and he is now 14. Paul and Josh share time together doing activities around Seattle, spending time outdoors, playing videogames or watching action movies.
Ever since we first met, we have been excited to start a family because we knew we had found the perfect partner for parenthood! We are excited about sharing joy in the simple aspects of life with our child; a nature walk, playing with friends, table games and cooking. We intend to raise a child in a loving and nurturing environment that is warm, and supportive for a child to face life’s challenges and succeed.
Our tight bonds with family and friends have helped us become the people we are today. After seven years together and five years of marriage, we continue to enjoy each other’s company, but at a much deeper level. We hold our family relationships sacred, and look forward to creating a lifelong bond with a child and his or her birthfamily. If you decide to make us your choice, we look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family with gratitude and open arms!
We wish you the best in your journey.
