Miles and Tori

Hello! We are Miles, Tori, and Malcolm. We live outside of a small town in Oregon. We first met in preschool, where we got into a bit of trouble when we shared our first kiss on the playground (or at least that’s the story our moms tell). We grew up together in a small community on the Oregon coast—sitting next to each other in classes, studying together on the weekends, and attending formal dances as each other’s dates. We went to separate colleges and began our adult lives apart, but reunited to begin a relationship based on our strong friendship. We started dating in 2009, married in 2014, and bought our home in 2015. In 2018, Malcolm joined our family through open adoption.

Miles is an outdoorsman and an environmentalist. He works as a lawyer protecting clean water in the Columbia River. He loves spending time outside hiking, biking, birdwatching, hunting, and fishing. He plays the fiddle and enjoys playing with his family and friends. Miles is a quiet, somewhat serious person, who spends time reading nonfiction, gardening, perfecting new recipes, and working on projects around the house.

Tori is a people person. She works as a middle school teacher and loves spending her days surrounded by kids. She is also a passionate baseball fan; she spends a lot of time in the summer watching the Mariners and managing her fantasy team. She also likes yoga, hiking, reading (primarily YA novels), watching rom-coms, and drinking lattes.

Malcolm is a high-energy, extroverted toddler. He loves to run around waving at people and saying “hi”. He is inquisitive and always learning new things. He loves to have Mom and Dad read him his favorite books. He also likes to dance to any type of music and play outside, especially in puddles! He is a caring, sweet kid, always blowing kisses and giving lots of hugs. He is going to be a great older brother.

Although we were unable to have biological children, we grew much closer as a couple on this journey. We were very excited to welcome Malcolm and his birth family into our lives and look forward to growing our family. We have always had a “more the merrier” attitude in life, and we carry that view into adoption. We look forward to welcoming another child into a loving, supportive home where respect, independence, and curiosity are valued. We hope that, through open adoption, we can raise our children with a positive sense of self and confidence that they are loved by many people.

Thanks for reading our story and for considering making us a part of your family!
