Lisa and Alex
Hello, we are Lisa & Alex!
We have many stories of being in the same place at the same time over the years but we finally met on a camping trip with mutual friends in 2008. We spent a long time being close friends before we came to our senses and started officially dating. We had a blast falling in love and got married in 2015 on an organic apple farm under Mt Hood. We go back to the farm regularly to buy apples and visit the mountain. Our wedding was special to us for many reasons but one of them was a blood moon lunar eclipse that cleared the dance floor. It really felt like magic.
We now own a historic Craftsman home in NE Portland. It’s actually our dream house. It was built in 1924 by the first family who lived in it and has a lot of details that we think make it special. Our street has huge ancient chestnut trees and we have really great neighbors. One of them already made us a baby quilt! Our favorite park with rose gardens and a great playground is a short walk away. We live with our cat, Milly (the sweet girl who knows everyone in the neighborhood) our large puppy, Hero (named for his David Bowie eyes) and our little dog, Twyla (who loves spending her days snuggling with Hero). Our home is full of laughter, goofy made-up songs, books, great food, music, gardening, and lots of art.
Lisa is a former tattoo artist. She spent 11 years in the tattoo industry and loved it but is now dedicating her time to running our Airbnb Little House, her personal creative projects and leaving lots of time and flexibility open for being a Mom. Alex thinks Lisa is the most caring person he’s ever met. She’s a born organizer, and she uses her skills to bring joy to the people she loves. Whether it’s organizing a fundraiser for a friend in need, or planning a surprise party, Lisa loves celebrations and goes out of her way to make life special for those around her.
Alex is a real estate agent who loves helping families find their dream homes. Alex is an avid reader, plays guitar and banjo, and records songs in our basement recording studio. Before real estate, Alex ran a non-profit that taught photography to kids. Lisa thinks Alex is kind, patient, smart, so funny and full of love. His friends and family know Alex can always be counted on for support. Lisa also loves that no matter what adventure she throws his way, Alex is always on board.
Together, we love traveling the world, camping, singing songs, taking photographs, collecting vintage finds for our house, playing records, volunteering for our community, eating pizza, finding black and white photo booths and going for long walks.
Although Lisa spent some years in San Francisco, we have mostly lived in Portland since the 1990s and have built a large community here. We also have large extended families, with many nieces and nephews who are anxiously awaiting a new cousin to visit. Our parents are already knitting blankets and sending supplies!
We love and support each other unconditionally. We value kindness, openness, empathy, thoughtfulness, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. We’re committed to teaching these values to our child, and raising our child to feel loved, nurtured, and supported in their endeavors.
We are so excited about becoming parents. There are many options for people like us who are not able to have children on our own. When we learned about open adoption, it was our first choice for growing our family. We have many friends and family members with non-traditional families (including adoption!) and we embrace the fact that loving families can be formed and grow in a variety of ways.
You will be an important part of our child’s life, and your love will continue to nurture them. Our hearts are open to growing our family with your love and support.
All our love,
-Lisa & Alex
