Laura and Ryan
Hi, we are Laura and Ryan!
We live in beautiful Oregon, where Ryan was born and raised. Laura moved here from the Midwest over a decade ago to pursue a graduate degree and we met while working in the same helping profession where our shared values of open-heartedness, authenticity, and healing resonated from the start. We are so appreciative of our proximity to the ocean, mountains, and rivers, and long to share our adventures with a child.
We are lucky that Ryan’s family is local and we regularly travel to visit Laura’s family in the Midwest. Traditions there include camp outs, playing board games, and pontoon boat rides around the lake. We often attempt to pun-up each other and our families receive ample pun-ishment in their birthday cards. We love a good movie, trips to the coast, and doting on our two cats, Zorro and Stax.
We frequently host events at our home for our given and chosen families. One of our traditions is called Maysgiving, a potluck gathering in the spring because a full year is too long to wait to enjoy a big meal with our favorite people. We also gather for family birthdays and relish picking fun themes. Our big backyard allows plenty of space for BBQs, yard games, and summer movies under the stars.
Ryan is dependable and thorough in all that he does, from running his own mental health therapy practice to cooking elaborate meals. He believes in equality, inclusiveness, and social justice and seeks out listening/reading material in support of this growth. Ryan’s silly side is always near, from doing uncanny impersonations to belting out lyrics from cheesy 80’s tunes. He is an avid volleyball player, kayaker, video gamer, and enjoys podcasts or sports while the kitties capitalize on his lap real estate.
Laura is a caring connection-seeker who delights in finding ways to make her friends and family feel special. She works as a case manager to connect others with mental health resources. Her boundless creativity is expressed through mosaic, drawing, glass fusion, and homemade cards. She has fun capturing moments by photo or pen, which turn into annual gifts like a photo calendar and “year in review” caricature drawings. She also seeks joyful movement like swimming, biking, and dancing.
We were drawn to Open Adoption & Family Services because of their fierce commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and ongoing support for all members of the adoption constellation. We believe that a child does best with as many loving supports as possible and see building and nourishing our connection to our child’s birth family as a natural and cherished part of our adoption journey. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us.
