Laura and Robert
Laura and Robert here! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us. We look forward to getting to know you!
We live in Northwest Oregon with our two cats Toby and Leelu. This year, we will celebrate our 17th year of marriage!
Laura is originally from Oregon and Robert from Pennsylvania. A few chance encounters while we were both in the military and we were head over heels for each other. We moved all over the country with the military; before we knew it, we had settled in a warm home in the cloudy Northwest.
We spend our free time together seeking adventure by sightseeing, road tripping, trying new things, or sometimes just enjoying some rest and relaxation at home with our cats watching the latest Netflix show or movie. Robert is a total techno-nerd and has side projects all over his desk. He is usually tinkering away while an old TV show or cheesy movie plays in the background. Laura loves paper crafts, DIY projects, and baking. When she is not doing that, she is usually indulging in shows about true crimes or listening to audiobooks.
Laura works for a bank managing a team of financial crimes investigators, and Robert works for an electronic payments company managing a team of software engineers. We both enjoy our work, and are thankful that it affords us time together and with our family. Both of our employers are very family-friendly and offer us a lot of support and flexibility. Initially, when the baby is born Robert will take a couple weeks off from work, while Laura plans to take 16 weeks of leave. When we are working, Robert predominantly goes into the office and Laura primarily works from home; however, we both have the flexibility to be home when the need arises.
Laura is an animal lover and a planner. Robert is a storyteller and a joker. We fill our home with love and laughter and are delighted to share that with family and friends! Most of our family live nearby to include our parents, a couple siblings and their families, cousins, nieces, and a few grandnieces and a grandnephew! Our friends and family are always welcome in our home. We love when they bring their families and enjoy making sure the kiddos have plenty of fun things to do when they visit.
Our road to adoption is one that many before us have traveled, as we struggled with infertility for a number of years. While treatments did not work for us, we believe that experience with infertility put us on our intended path toward adoption. In our hearts, we know open adoption has always been our destiny, and we embrace adoption in every way. Having as much love and support in our child’s life is our motivation for choosing open adoption specifically. We look forward to sharing this journey with the birth family in whatever capacity they feel most comfortable. Just know that we love the thought that through open adoption we have the opportunity to meet new extended family along the way!
Parenting has always been a dream of ours. We want to pass along our love of adventure, family, and our celebration of the things that make everyone unique. We believe anyone can be the best version of their self, no matter the path they choose.
Speaking of unique, be very grateful that we wrote this letter together. Robert had a pretty goofy introduction planned! Laura loved the idea, but thought we should save our quirkiness for a later date!
Even though we may never meet, just know that we are out here wishing you nothing but the best on your journey.
All our love,
Robert and Laura (and the cats, too!)
