Jen and Casey
We are Jen and Casey from Portland, Oregon. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about ourselves, our lives, our hopes, and our excitement to expand our family through an open adoption.
It all started for us in December of 2008, when we both signed up with an online dating site. Our first date was at a low-key pub where we instantly hit it off, playing games and poking fun at each other. To Jen’s delight, she triumphantly beat Casey at a game of darts. Jen was Casey’s first and only online date, and we are still together years later, making each other laugh each and every day.
When we met, Jen had just moved to Portland from Phoenix for a new position as a pediatric operating room nurse, where she still works. Casey, a Portland native, was working at his family business, a security alarm company, which he now runs. We both enjoy working hard to achieve our goals, but still make time to enjoy all that life has to offer.
Jen is the planner of the two of us, where as Casey has a flair for spontaneity. We have a lot of fun together, whether we are taking a walk with our two dogs, Hank and Ragnar, working on repairs and improvements to our home, or curling up together on the couch and watching nerdy movies. We love to cook together, go to the coffee shop and play board games, gardening in the back yard, driving around in our classic Mustang, and traveling. We are looking forward to introducing a child to all that we love in life and we hope to make many memories while sharing our adventurous spirit with him or her.
We value close relationships with our family and friends, a sense of community amongst our neighbors, and helping those around us whenever and however we can. Casey is an extrovert and loves talking to anyone that crosses his path. Jen is soulful and introspective, feeling most comfortable in small groups of close friends and family. But look out! Once Jen is comfortable, be ready for her quick-witted humor.
We enjoy spending as much time as possible with family and friends. Casey’s parents live in Portland and we like to try new breakfast restaurants on the weekends with them. When Casey’s sister visits from California, we have our tradition of going to Powell’s Book Store and our favorite sushi restaurant. We also try to visit Jen’s mom and sister in Arizona, and play with our two nieces as much as possible. Jen’s dad just moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and we look forward to visiting him there. We regularly go out to dinner and movies with friends or the guys will keep busy with outdoor sports while the ladies are canning something delicious.
We are looking forward to sharing our lives, experiences, and quirkiness with our child and creating new traditions as we develop our family. Having a child would bring us joy in so many ways. We envision spending our time exposing our child to all the marvels around us, encouraging his or her creativity and supporting his or her individual interests as he or she grows. We are excited at the possibility of expanding our family through an open adoption and loving everyone involved as a member of our family. Openness in adoption builds upon our philosophy that love is limitless and is not confined by traditional roles and boundaries. As a family, we would honor your loving decision and we would welcome a child with the utmost possible care, love, and support.
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and we wish the best for you.
