Hello, I’m Becca. Thanks for letting me introduce myself.
I’m a pediatrician and I live in Seattle. I’ve been here since 2016, and I’ve been in love with the Pacific Northwest for even longer. I almost did my pediatric training at Seattle Children’s and this place just got stuck in my head as somewhere I could see myself being happy. The water, mountains and green trees here are beautiful – and no more Boston winters!
Not too long after I transplanted myself across the country, my sister and her family did the same. Now they’re living five blocks away which is amazing for all of us. It has been really fun to get to see her and her family regularly for family breakfasts and walks at the beach. My parents are still in Boston, and we all trade off traveling from coast to coast to be able to see one another as often as possible.
Currently, I share my home in a Co-Housing situation with my best friend Tove. We’ve known each other for over sixteen years and, when I moved to Seattle, we both agreed that shared housing made more sense for the both of us. We share the house along with a furry family consisting of three cats and a dog. One or more of them is typically available to snuggle up with.
I love my home and community here in Seattle, and I always have an open door for visitors. I really enjoy cooking for friends and family, working in the garden, and curling up with a good book. I read as many books as I can, mostly fantasy and science fiction, but hand me anything and I’ll give it a try. When I’m not working or enjoying the Pacific Northwest, I am a huge fan of travel – Spain, Costa Rica, Ireland, Mexico, and most recently I got to visit Peru (I’m a teeny tiny bit obsessed with llamas now). The adventure of traveling is exhilarating, but a big part of that is because I know I always have a comfortable home base to come back to.
I am incredibly grateful for my life. I know I’m lucky to have had a happy childhood with a loving, supportive family that helped me grow into the person I am today. That’s what I’m hoping for with an open adoption – the chance to create that same loving and supportive environment for a child. In my vision, that includes both my family and their birth family. My fundamental belief, and I’ve seen this throughout my career, is that children do best when they are surrounded by love. The more people who support them and are invested in their life, the better.
I was able to experience this first-hand last year. I had the opportunity to parent an adorable baby girl through the first few months of her life, before she was reunited with her father, and I learned so much about loving and caring for a child. I am forever grateful and amazed to have been her mother, even for those short months. I will always treasure the time I spent with her.
Life has a lot of twists and turns, and I believe that those twists and turns are easier to navigate when they are shared with those you love. I hope we find ourselves sharing the road for a while, creating a family. Wherever you are on your journey, I wish you the very best.
With love, Becca
