Alisa and Michael
We are Michael and Alisa. We believe in authenticity. We believe in the importance of stories. We believe relationships matter. And they matter a lot! We believe the more people that love a child and are part of their tribe, the better! We’ve always been drawn to adoption and have only ever wanted to expand our family in this way. We are excited to welcome a child and their birth family into our family and we hope to grow a genuine and lifelong friendship with our child’s birth parents.
We were both raised in non-traditional families. Michael’s mom is an adoptee from a closed adoption. We’ve never known anything about her birth family. We wish we knew more about her story and roots. Alisa’s parents are divorced (and remarried), and because of this, she has full, half and step siblings. Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends are all very present in our lives. Our extended families are big. And crazy. And fun. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
We’ve been friends since middle school. After graduating from college we realized our friendship could be more. Michael worked up the courage to ask Alisa on a date in 2006 and everything felt natural from there. We’ve grown as individuals and as a couple since our wedding in 2010, balancing our shared strong work ethic, humor and family – always while putting each other first.
We have two sweet dogs and a friendly cat. We get so much joy coming home to excited faces and wiggling butts. We live in a suburban neighborhood in Washington State, across the street from a large park that is perfect for walking our dogs and enjoying the outdoors. We enjoy doing community service projects together, something we look forward to sharing with our child. We love to travel near and far, spend lots of time with friends and family, cook, garden, play board games and watch Seattle sports – we are especially big Seahawks fans!
Michael is an engineer – he loves building and creating things. He played with Legos as a child, and still enjoys building with them today. He envisions a life of playing with our child building couch cushion forts, constructing outdoor playhouses, going to playgrounds, and finding ways to inspire creativity and imagination. Michael is always ready to get down on the floor and play with the little ones in our life.
Alisa is an elementary school teacher, a local school board director, and was recently named one of Washington’s Teachers of the Year. She is an incredible aunt, creating themed family get-togethers for all holidays and being a supportive listener to all. She always wants to make sure visitors are comfortable and happy in our home, and enjoys hosting everything from Christmas dinner to summer BBQs. She envisions a life of enjoying time with our child through travel, trips to the zoo, and nightly bedtime stories.
Kindness, a desire to serve others, and compassion are all things we look forward to teaching our child. We want nothing more than for our child to have exposure to the world and opportunities that will allow for building a confident identity. We want our child to know, most of all, that they are loved, adored and treasured by both us and their birth family. Thank you for reading about us!
Wishing you peace,
-Michael and Alisa (and Izzy, Dexter and Casper too!)
