Sue and Joe
Dear Expectant Parent(s),
Thank you very much for taking the time to read our letter. We are Joe, Sue and Cammer and we are so excited to expand our family. Our extended families are a huge part of our life and we look forward to welcoming our child’s birth family into ours.
We live in an older, quiet neighborhood in a Pacific Northwest city, just a bike ride away from many things we like to do. Joe works in financial consulting at a local firm, while Sue loves being a stay-at-home mom to Cammer. We met in college and were married soon after graduation. We loved getting to spend the first seven years of our marriage developing individually and as a couple, and now are happy to be giving our all to parenting. We spent our time as a couple traveling, hosting big dinners, running in races, fixing up the house, attending sporting events, and vacationing at the coast and Joe’s family’s lake cabin. Cam joined our family through an open adoption in August 2009. Although our travels are now closer to home and our dinners end a bit earlier, we enjoy these activities more than ever as a family.
Joe is a wonderful husband and Sue thinks he is an amazing father. He can always make Sue and Cammer laugh. In fact, sometimes Cam starts laughing if Joe just enters the room! Joe spends his free time barbecuing (and eating) meat, growing vegetables, and brewing beer. Most weekends he can be found puttering around the backyard or wrestling with Cam. While he is passionate about the things he loves, Sue especially loves Joe for his easy-going nature, which helps keep her grounded.
Sue will happily hang out and eat some good barbecue with Joe (although she would rather eat ice cream, cake, ice cream, cookies, or ice cream). She loves to run, but also loves to bake, and says that part of the reason she runs is so she can eat all the sweets she wants. She enjoys knitting, reading, and playing the piano. Cam often joins Sue on runs, in the kitchen, or bangs on the piano with her. Joe adores Sue and her ability to accept and love people for who they are, not who she thinks they should be. Her creativity and passion for life push Joe to be a better husband, person, and father.
Cammer is a sweet boy with a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoys being around kids of all ages (especially his cousins) and we know he will be a wonderful big brother. He loves to be outside, play with trucks, go for walks and bike rides, and sing songs. He also has one of the best laughs Joe and Sue have ever heard.
We hope to give our children the opportunity to fully express themselves, follow their dreams, and pursue their passions—as long as they keep up their grades up! We hope to continue traveling, exploring, and playing as a family. We have found that whether we are finding sea stars at the coast, picking huckleberries at the cabin, or cheering on our favorite football teams, it is always better when we are together.
We have a wonderful support system, and Cammer knows his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins well. We can’t wait for them to love the next addition to our family! We adopted Cammer through OA&FS and are so happy to have relationships with his birth parents. Part of the reason open adoption appeals to us is because there is no such thing as too much family or too much love. Our family relationships, especially with our siblings, have always been a big part of our lives, and we would like to give Cammer and his future brother or sister a chance to have these great relationships as well.
Thanks again for reading our letter. We have so much respect for you and what you are doing, and we hope you find peace in this journey we are all on.
Sincerely,
Joe, Sue & Cam
