Steve and Drew
“I love you”
”How much?”
”A lot”
”How much is that?”
”A whole bunch”
It’s a saying that has been with us since we met over eleven years ago, and it’s a saying that we hope to pass on to our future child (or rather, children, if we are lucky). We plan to raise our child in a happy home, with tons of love and happiness. We want to expose our child to all facets of the world, including different cultures, religions and beliefs, and we want to raise our child to be a happy, responsible, self-sufficient adult. We want the path to adulthood to be filled with love, happiness and wonderful memories.
Steve, originally from Canada, grew up to be very reasoning, logical, and loving. Drew, an American, was raised in Mexico by his missionary parents (he is fluent in Spanish), and grew to be a spontaneous dreamer. From this, our nicknames were born…Drew is the Kite, and Steve is the string. Together we are a perfect match. We have been together for eleven years, and after moving to the Pacific Northwest last year, we immediately became registered domestic partners, since it was finally legal in the state where we live. We are married in our minds and hearts, but will officially do it once it is legal in the state where we live. Our relationship motto for whenever things get tough, is “Would you rather be right or be happy?”
Steve is an Optometrist who owns a practice in a large Northwest city. Drew is a clinical nurse educator for a pharmaceutical company, and has the luxury of a flexible schedule working from home. We are family oriented suburb people who currently live in a very family friendly neighborhood, where the kids ride their bikes in the street and draw chalk art on the sidewalks. It is a place where our child will be able to act like a child and grow up happy. We also have a wonderful Yorkshire Terrier. We love him enormously, and he absolutely loves children.
Family is very important to both of us. Steve’s family lives close by and we see them often. His dad is always nearby, and his sister and her husband, who live on a horse farm, are currently trying to have a baby as well. It will be fun for our kids to have cousins of the same age. Drew’s brother and sister-in-law have visited us a few times from Texas, and love the area so much, they will be moving here soon too!
In our spare time, we love to go into the city to go to concerts and restaurants and museums, but you are just as likely to find us at home in the suburbs, taking a walk with our dog, going to a movie, or having great friends over for dinner. Travel is a huge passion in our lives, and we have travelled extensively to many countries in Asia, Europe and North America. We plan to take our child on many adventures both locally and internationally. And, with our future child in mind, we are even about to purchase a travel trailer to upgrade from tent camping!
We have been planning to adopt for many years, and are so excited about the prospect of sharing our lives with our adopted child and their birthparents. Knowing that our child will know who their birthparents are, assures they will have a solid identity and feel very loved as they grow up.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about us. We cannot wait to meet you and learn about you as well!
