Myrna and Karl
WE’LL TELL YOU A SECRET: All these letters you’re reading; all the faces you¹re seeing and names you’re trying to remember, they¹re all great people.
We’ve met a lot of them, and there are many we wish could adopt us! Some will be better fits than others, but there are no bad choices. We thought you¹d like to know that because we know you want what is best for your child. And because that’s what we want, too.
We are Karl and Myrna. We live in a welcoming home, full of color and life that reflects our deep love for each other, rewarding careers, and the joy we get from friends and family. Both of us are artists with in-the-home studios, and our days are filled with art and music and storytelling‹ almost always accompanied by our exuberant corgis, Cosmo and Zevon. We are not mountain bikers or skiers, but we do enjoy walking through the forest or along the beach, and in 2009 we were lucky enough to spend two weeks rafting the Grand Canyon. We are both intrigued by life, and love to learn new things and be aware of what is happening in the world around us. We would love to share our world with a child.
Karl, according to Myrna, throws himself into everything with exuberance, joy and commitment‹ including his relationship with me. He loves what he does and those he does it with. He writes and draws comic books, and super- heroes have a real presence in our lives, from the art on our walls to our conversations at dinner. Karl also loves to cook. He is constantly trying new recipes on friends and family, and every Thanksgiving cooks a feast for my entire family - 20-plus people! (And there’s always room for more at the table, which, of course, includes you.) Karl is a kind and gentle man who is quick to laugh and to love, and will make an amazing father.
Myrna, according to Karl, is the wisest, most wonderful person I know, with an amazing ability to see to the core of any problem or situation. She has an impish, sparkle-in-her-eye sense of humor that always makes me smile, if not laugh out loud. She loves people, being with people, and connecting with people. She is patient and gentle and unbelievably giving and loving. And cute. I do not know anyone who does not love Myrna, and I cannot think of anyone who would be a better mother.
A child in our lives will experience simple pleasures like daily walks with the dogs, reading and coloring, playing with the neighborhood children, and ending the day with all of us (including the dogs!) piled up together on the couch. There will be trips back east to visit Karl’s family and holidays that will be celebrated with Myrna’s large extended family (who all live nearby). We will sit together at comic book conventions and keep Karl company as he signs comic books. And, of course, Karl will always be baking from scratch amazing birthday cakes for our little one!
Our lives are full and satisfying. We are not looking into adoption because something is missing, but because we know our hearts can hold more.
When we are lucky enough to be entrusted with a child, we want what is best for that dear one. This includes our child understanding where they came from, and how they came into our lives. You are part of that child, and we look forward to opening our circle of love to include you. We believe that no one can ever be loved too much or by too many people.
Our hearts go out to you in this time of discernment. May you find peace in wherever your choices lead.
