Marcie and Neal

Hello!

We are Neal and Marcie and we are excited to tell you a little about us.

We met in college 18 years ago and we are happy to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary this fall.  Our house is filled with laughter, compassion and friendship.  Patience and kindness have kept our relationship strong and loving (with a practical joke thrown in every once in a while!) As atheists, we believe in honesty, integrity, hard work, and that life should be joyful.  We value other people as individuals, and we feel that open adoption is the best choice for us because the process values everyone involved equally – the child, the birthmother and the adoptive parents. We are all important for the welfare of the child, and we couldn’t imagine adopting any other way.

Marcie is a program coordinator for a local non-profit.  She is gregarious, boisterous and loud, and enjoys meeting new people, experiencing new places and learning new activities.  Marcie loves to play games with friends, discover new restaurants and food, and travel to new cities like Boston and Washington, DC for work.  When she isn’t planning her next homemade Halloween costume or building a new bookcase for the family room, she can be found snuggling with the animals and a good book.

Neal is a graphic designer and cartoonist.  He usually works from home, but also periodically teaches at a local art school.  He is quiet, thoughtful, quick to smile, and basically a kid at heart.  He practices Aikido, a martial art dedicated to peaceful conflict resolution, and as a black belt, he plays a leadership role at his school.  Neal spends his time walking the dog, learning new recipes and playing video games with his brother online. Of course, his first love is drawing comic strips, which he will do just about anywhere – napkins, restaurant placemats, or random bulletin boards.

Our animals are very special to us.  We’ve had our two cats Fizzgig and Morrigan almost as long as we’ve lived together.  At first they weren’t too happy when we brought home Teagan, at the time a rambunctious puppy, but now they are buddies.  In the evenings, all five of us often share a fleece blanket on the couch.

We both love to read, watch movies and TV, and take Teagan to dog parks on the weekends.  We are always on the lookout for cultural festivals and community events in our region – especially food celebrations.  Recently we took part in an urban foot race involving food carts across the city and we had a blast!  At one point we were carrying a small cup of blue water, our mouths full of waffles, running to catch a bus to the next challenge. We enjoy travelling whenever we can to visit family and friends across the country, and we have been fortunate enough to visit some foreign cities including Paris and Singapore.

We are excited to start a family and hope to someday adopt two children.  We want to share our explorations of the world with kids and take part in their amazement and wonder.  We hope to pass on our beliefs in right and wrong, and bring some good to the world through the children we raise.  We look forward to waking up on a Saturday morning to little footsteps, scampering around with the dog, knowing that the day is full of joyful possibilities.

Thank you for reading our letter.  We hope to meet you soon and look forward to becoming a part of your life.  And we can’t wait to welcome you in to ours!
