Maggie and Jerry
Hi and top of the morn' to ya!
We are Maggie and Jerry and, no, we’re not Irish. But sometimes in the privacy of our home we pretend to be.We also like to mix it up with an occasional French or Italian accent as well. That quirkiness is probably one of the reasons why we’ve been together for 15 years—we like to be silly and invent our own way to have fun in our otherwise normal everyday life.
We’ve been married for over 13 idyllic years! Ok, that is a stretch…We learned a long time ago there is no such thing as a perfect marriage, or perfect “anything”for that matter. But we not only love, but genuinely like each other. We continue to learn new things and are strongly committed to our relationship and our family. We live life to the fullest!
Our backgrounds may be different, but we are able to weave them together. We share many of the values that were instilled in us by our families, like integrity, tolerance and hard work. Maggie is an only child and was born and raised in Poland. Her mom, a single parent, endured a lot of hardships in her native country, and moved to America where she knew life could be better. Maggie's mom lives a few blocks away, so we see her almost daily. She is an important member of this family and helps us tremendously.Jerry grew up in Southern California in a traditional, doting Italian-American family. His dad was a police officer and his mom, a nurse. Jerry and his older brother were fortunate to be surrounded by a stable, loving family.
We are fortunate to already call ourselves parents. After a couple of years of unsuccessful attempts at starting a family, we were thrilled to find out that we became pregnant in 2005. Our daughter was named after a cartoon of a sassy little honeybee which Maggie loved watching as a kid in Poland. Our Maja is really looking forward to having a little brother or sister. She is sweet, enthusiastic and wise beyond her years. Her laugh is infectious! She is also a bit of a tom-boy who dreams of being a race car driver or a scientist. We dream about one more 'miracle' entering our life! This time we choose adoption as our route. Both of us are committed to being honest with our child about the loving circumstances of the adoption, and believe that openness is not only beneficial but crucial for everyone involved.
The Pacific Northwest is a great place to live and raise kids! Our neighborhood consists of young families and many elderly as well. For us, it’s the perfect blend. We walk to most places which means we know our neighbors and local shopkeepers. We have ice cream shops, parks, a community center, and an elementary school just 2 blocks away. Some of our favorite activities include hiking, biking, and simply exploring. We have a place in the mountains where we often go to camp, so Maja has become an expert marshmallow roaster! We love nature, music, art and sports! Our lives are filled with great friends and interesting activities, but we make certain to have quiet times as well. We never forget to be thankful for all we have and are committed to keeping our life simple but rich with experiences.
Our roles as parents have been fairly traditional. Maggie loves being a full-time parent, a role that Jerry envies as his boss is not nearly as fun as Maggie's! Both of us are committed to doing our part and making certain at least one of us is always there for our children throughout the day. We believe that kind of presence nurtures their confidence now and later in life.
We are grateful to you for reading our letter. We want you to know that we consider it a privilege to call ourselves parents and take nothing in the world more seriously than that role.We feel well prepared and will strive to raise this child to be a person who enjoys life and lives it with integrity--one that will make you proud of them and your choice.
