Lisa and Dean
Hi there!
We are Lisa and Dean and our thoughts are with you as you go through a very difficult decision-making process. Like you perhaps, after having done a lot of listening, talking and thinking we are very enthusiastic about open adoption and believe it makes for a happier and emotionally healthy child and family. We are excited and scared and trying ever so much to be patient both with the process and with the hope of meeting you and sharing our lives together.
A little about us – we’ve been married for six years; we’re both East Coasters originally and our families remain back there, so we’re excited to be gaining some West Coast family. Lisa loves knitting, reading (classical literature and medical history), exploring new places, spinning yarn, yoga and just generally being outdoors in almost any weather with whoever wants to go. Dean enjoys playing softball and kickball, reading (mostly science fiction) and working out. Together, we love to camp, play disc golf, garden, and attend college football games and minor league baseball games. We can’t wait to introduce a child to all that we know, love and hope to experience.
Lisa is a bedside nurse at a hospital and Dean is a full-time student working towards a bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy, graduating in 2012. We are both thrilled to be in the health care industry as it offers great job security and flexible hours with career options that allow for life changes as children mature.
Dean has a keen and fantastically silly sense of humor, though he tends to be a daydreamer and a bit shy in new situations with new people. He is one of those people to whom children, and dogs, are irresistibly drawn -kinda weird. Lisa loves to laugh and play- at home or at work. She can be very content with a lazy Sunday but more often than not her battle cry is “Activities!” which means it’s to be a day of crafts, a home project, or outdoor play somewhere. Dean likes to joke that it is Lisa who makes sure he remains busy and engaged with the world. Dean is the more relaxed and easy-going of this duo, somewhat the emotional anchor, and Lisa thinks with Dean’s playfulness and love of play “wrestling” our cat, Pi, there will be two “children” in the house. Lisa has boundless energy and compassion and is one of those people to whom saving the world seems a very real possibility. If it weren’t for her powerful urge to be a Mom, Lisa would certainly spend her nursing career trotting the globe to work with people in need.
Between us we have had such a mix of life experiences, but we are missing one of the biggest of all, a child. Since we learned that having a biological child would not happen, the step to open adoption flowed relatively smoothly. Together we want to share our home and family, our community and the world with a child whom we hope to teach the value of family, education, laughter, love and exploring their interests. We look forward to expanding our family to include you and yours; and our hearts and minds are open to whatever it may look like.
Many blessings to you always,
Lisa and Dean
