Kirt and Jerry

Hi! We're Kirt and Jerry!

We met in 1995, when Kirt was 20 and Jerry was 24.  We moved in together three weeks after our first date!  That may sound like a recipe for disaster but here we are, together, more than 15 years later. Some things are meant to be.

We are soul mates in many ways. One of the strongest connections we share is our love for the arts. Kirt runs an arts council and is an actor; Jerry is a director and runs a theatre company.   Working in the arts gives us the unique opportunity to constantly meet new people from all walks of life, religious backgrounds, ethnicities and political views. It makes for an incredibly enriched life because our world is constantly expanding.

Our three favorite things are: collaborating artistically, hanging out at home together and spending quality time with friends and family. We also love movies, dining out, cooking (well, Jerry cooks and Kirt panics when Jerry doesn’t use a recipe!), seeing theatre in New York, reading and playing games (Kirt loves video games but Jerry…well, he can play Wii tennis).

Family is very important to us. We have more than 20 nieces and nephews between us, ranging in age from 9 months to 34 years! And our 7-year-old godson is a huge part of our life.  As soon as we told him we were starting the adoption process he had a list of possible names for us because, as far as he’s concerned, he’s waiting to meet his new brother or sister!

Adoption has been a big part of both of our families – Kirt has a 12-year-old niece who was adopted into the family four days after she was born. Jerry was adopted when he was 8 years old, through a partially open adoption. We are very close to his birth sister.  She lives nearby and we spend many Sunday dinners together.  She has helped us understand what family can be.

We have two cats and two dogs. One of our dogs, Stella, has been a paraplegic for over a year so we are used to getting up several times a night. She has a fantastic will to live and can get around faster in her wheelchair/cart than she used to on 4 legs!

We are lucky to have flexible jobs that are tailor-made for starting a family.  Kirt works long hours in the summer, but he is able to work from home whenever he wishes the other 9 months of the year. Jerry works from home every day and can adjust his schedule in any way necessary.

We live downtown in a large loft that used to be a daycare center, half a block from a city park and across the street from the Children’s Museum and the Planetarium.  For us, having children is all about love and laughter. In addition to the adventures within walking distance of our home, we’re excited to become parents and take a child to our favorite places (New York, Fish Lake, Grandpa’s dairy farm, Arizona) as well as family trips to the Pacific Northwest to visit you!

We are excited to welcome you into our family.
