Kathleen and James
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We are Jim and Kathleen and we live in rural Washington on 15 acres in a house that Jim built himself. Jim is a carpenter and homebuilder by trade but his real love is for farming, growing beautiful vegetables and raising animals. Our dairy cow, DeeDee, recently passed away but while with us she gave fresh milk that Jim turned into yogurt, cheese, and butter. We have 14 hens and one rooster who likes to think he is in charge. Jim also loves to cook and makes all of our meals. Jim is very skilled at any type of handiwork, from carpentry to knitting and sewing.
Kathleen is a nurse practitioner and works at a community health clinic. Kathleen loves her work as she really enjoys taking care of people and she gets to practice speaking Spanish with her patients all day. At home, she loves to knit and to make music by singing, playing guitar and learning ukulele. There’s even a thrift store accordion Kathleen hopes to play one of these days. Kathleen can’t wait to have a child to sing to and someday teach songs to and form a corny family band.
Together, we love to spend time outdoors biking, skiing, hiking and camping. Living in the mountains, our friends’ kids first get on skis at age three so Jim can’t wait to bring our little one to the bunny (beginner) hill. Nurse Kathleen will of course make sure that little one wears a helmet! We also love to travel and between us have been to Turkey, France, Hawaii, New Zealand, Peru, and all through Central America. We have both had many adventures and gotten a lot out of life, but the one adventure we haven’t embarked on yet is that of parenting. We want to show a child the whole wide world.
We get to spend a lot of time with our friends’ children and our nieces and in this way have seen little glimpses of what we might be like as parents. Kathleen has always been drawn to children and finds it easy to get onto kid level, to just get down on the floor and play and get silly. Jim has a peacefulness about him that appeals to children; little ones toddle up to him and get cozy, and his quick wit entertains bigger kids. Kathleen thinks that Jim’s innate integrity and compassion will serve him well as a father; Jim thinks that Kathleen’s warm and loving spirit will make her a great mom. We both want to create a peaceful home life for our children where they will feel safe and welcome to be whoever they are.
We’re both excited about the opportunities that open adoption offers, opportunities for more growth, more love, more family for our children, for us, and for a child’s birthparents. We welcome the opportunity to join our family with you and yours. We couldn’t imagine adopting any other way! Please accept our best wishes as you make your way through this process.
