Jonathan and Frank
ALOHA! As potentially the newest member of our extended family, we would like to take a few minutes to tell you a little bit about us. Our names are Jonathan (right) and Frank (left). First, thank you for opening your heart to us. We know that the journey that has brought you to reading this may have been a difficult one, and we are honored we might have the opportunity to be part of your life and to share the next part of both of our journeys together.
We are in our mid-thirties (Jonathan) to around forty (Frank), and we live on the south coast of Maui in Hawaii. We met about seven years ago and were legally married in California in August, 2008. We originally met through an online dating service. Neither one of us expected much before our first meeting; but both of us felt love at first sight. We were at a little coffee shop and we couldn't stop smiling at each other and laughing the whole time we were together. We were so engrossed with talking that the barista had to kick us out a half hour after the place closed! We have been very close throughout our relationship. We relish our days off together like anticipated holidays. Our friends are often amazed when we say that our most serious "fights" are rare and usually about things like whose turn it is to do the dishes.
Frank knows Jonathan's fun, easy-going and nurturing nature will make him a great dad. Our friend’s children always look forward to visits from "Uncle Jonathan," who is never too busy or "grown up" to play with toys or give piggyback rides. Jonathan knows Frank has always wanted to be a dad, and Jonathan is excited for Frank to have the opportunity to raise and love a child, especially because he had a very close bond with his own father.
Jonathan is an acupuncturist and Frank is a small animal veterinarian. We both share an empathetic nature and a desire to help and heal others (people in Jonathan's case; furry people in Frank's!). Frank has always had a love of animals and always knew, even as a child, that he wanted to be a vet. Jonathan's interest in Asian culture and spiritual philosophy; and his interest in healing, made Chinese medicine a natural career path.
We both grew up in California, and after living in Portland, Oregon together for two years, we decided to follow our dreams and move to Maui. We both love living close to the ocean, and we appreciate the spirit and kindness that is evident in the people and the island itself. Maui is a tight-knit community, and our neighbors watch out for each other and the motto is "live Aloha" and to be “Pono,” which means: one who does the right thing. We have adapted well to that spirit and to living in paradise.
We love spending time at home together just being lazy on days off or entertaining friends who often come over for games, shared meals, hanging out by the pool or watching a movie. We also love traveling, going to the theatre to watch movies, playing at the beach, hiking or anything fun outdoors We can't wait to expand these activities with our child to include playtime at the park, trips abroad, visiting relatives, and nightly bedtime stories before a tuck-in and kiss goodnight. We have a brood of 3 animals at home: Oakley, our thoughtful, intelligent beagle; Joey, our dense, but goofy and lovable Boston terrier, and our cat Boots, who is the queen of the house!
Even though we consider our lives together happy and full, we both long to have the opportunity to bring a child into our lives and be devoted, loving parents. The idea of openness in an adoption appealed to us from the start, and we want our child's birthparents to be part of our Ohana (Hawaiian for Family!). We plan to visit the Pacific Northwest at least once a year to visit many longtime friends, but you would be our most important reason for return visits! We would also love to show you around the island!
