Jamie and John
Hello, we’re John and Jamie.
We believe that we are all in this together -- us, you, and the child you’re bringing into this world.
The two of us have been together for 18 years and counting (we started young!). If you knew the two of us, you’d know that we’re each others’ best friends, that we’re crazy about our cat, and that we love our neighborhood. And you’d know how much we really, really, really want to be parents.
After trying to conceive for a number of years, we discovered what’s truly important to us, which is welcoming a kid into our family that we can nurture, grow with, and enjoy life with. We appreciate you taking the time to find out a little about us. Having known people throughout our lives who were adopted, we’ve seen first-hand the benefits of openness, as well as the heartbreak of someone not knowing where they came from. Family history and family connection are important to both of us, and it seems like common sense that every child is connected to who and where he or she came from.
We live in a large city in the Pacific Northwest in a neighborhood that (in our opinion) has the perfect mix of urban and residential. Our street is quiet but we can easily walk to buses, schools, parks, shops, restaurants, and even a movie theater. Together, we enjoy collecting oddball things, walking or biking around our neighborhood, taking pictures, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. But as much as we love to get out and do those kinds of things, most nights you’ll find us at home -- enjoying each other’s company, playing with the cat, or pursuing one of our hobbies. We also greatly enjoy music, from alt rock like Nick Cave and Damien Jurado, country like Johnny Cash and the Watson Twins, to jazz greats like John Coltrane and Nina Simone. Some of our favorite movies include The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Inception, Zoolander, and the Bourne trilogy.
John is a librarian who specializes in genealogy research and local history; he’s researched his own family’s history for nearly twenty years, and genealogy is the hobby he’s most passionate about. Jamie is a communications specialist at a university and, as with John, there are many parallels between her job and her favorite hobbies—reading and writing. We both love learning new things, whether that’s from reading a book, visiting a museum, or traveling someplace new.
Jamie on John: John is easy-going, open-minded, generous, artistic, and charismatic. He’s my partner in crime (“crimes” like putting watching a movie ahead of a household chore), and I love his kindness and sense of fun. For all of his amiability, John is not a pushover. He has great strength of character, integrity, and self-assuredness. In tense or uncomfortable situations, John is the kind of person who keeps his cool, makes others laugh, and can see both sides of things, and I know his diplomacy will come in handy as a parent. As a father, John will be warm, nurturing, attentive, and fun but will also provide guidance and set limits as needed (I think that’s enough cupcakes for now, don’t you?).
John on Jamie: Jamie is smart, cute, playful, sweet, funny, and loves to laugh. Those are some of the things I love most about Jamie, but I also love her smile, creative nature, compassion, and conscientiousness. Jamie has a knack for planning and organizing, strives for perfection, and always follows through. Those qualities contribute to an orderly home that I appreciate and that will benefit our child. As a mother, Jamie will provide consistency but will also be warm, playful, and innovative. She’ll initiate games, crafts, and outings and will be quick to help build a fort or chase a butterfly.
We believe that it’s all about the kid. We’re in this to do the best we can for our child -- and enjoy life together. After all, that’s what being a family is all about. We wish you well and look forward to having the chance to meet you and to possibly become part of each others’ extended family.
With regard,
Jamie & John
