Elizabeth

My name is Elizabeth and it is an honor to be writing to you.

I have always been clear about wanting to be a mom and have been very involved in the lives of children: as a babysitter, a classroom volunteer, an auntie and as a teacher. My relationships with children greatly influenced my decision to pursue graduate studies in Human Development and Early Childhood Education. I have happily run my own preschool for 17 years and have a lot of flexibility in my schedule. My days in the classroom are filled with joy and discovery, and the gift of being in the moment with children is a reminder to nurture my own sense of wonder at the world!

My desire in becoming a parent is to provide a home for a child based on love and respect for their unique spirit. It is my intention to create a relationship that encourages a child to come to know themselves: to feel safe in taking risks in learning, to feel their feelings, to have confidence in expressing themselves, to follow their natural curiosity about the world around them, and to feel their value in their community of friends and family.

The natural beauty of the area I live in is something that brings me incredible nourishment.  I spend a lot of time walking in my neighborhood with my wonderful dog, Elgin, running on the trails along the rivers and through the forests near my home, and meeting up with friends for tea or stopping to chat as they are weeding or playing ball in their yard. My home for me is a kind of sanctuary and I take great pleasure in creating a relaxed, comfortable and cozy space to enjoy. I love to be out in the garden getting my hands in the dirt. It is a special delight to grow foods that I can bring directly to the dinner table or to cut fresh flowers to bring to a friend. I enjoy reading about child development, cooking, poetry, fiction and spirituality, and I take great pleasure in my yoga practice and meditation. I also love to be outdoors and enjoy surfing at the coast throughout the summer.

I share my life with a beautiful man, Graham, who lives 20-minutes away with his 10-year-old son, Tabor.  We have been in a relationship for over 2 years and are happily and gratefully continuing to build our commitment to one another. Tabor is a lively, funny, imaginative boy. Graham is a very loving father, partner and friend. We share our love of family, the simple pleasures of being in nature and our desire to keep learning and growing in this life. He has been incredibly supportive of me in my journey to become a mom. He continues to be supportive and I am so very grateful for his and Tabor’s presence in my life.

Open adoption appeals to me as it is so child centered. I am drawn to the intention to create an environment where a child will have the greatest amount of information and relationship with his/her birth parent(s). Open adoption, to me, seems to encourage more love, connection and understanding for all parties involved.  My hope would be to create a relationship based on trust and love - through photographs, phone calls, email and visits. My vision is to create a relationship that always keeps the child's best interests as the priority.

For me, my life has taken many unexpected turns. I am ever grateful for the many opportunities to observe, to learn, to grow and to be receptive to life's many gifts. My many thanks to you, for your time and consideration in reading my letter. My best wishes for you in this journey.

Gratefully,

Elizabeth
