Dawn and Theo
Thank you for taking time to connect with us through the doorway of this letter. Our names are Dawn and Theo. We are delighted to open our lives to a child through open adoption and look forward to cultivating a relationship with the child’s birth family based on trust, respect and love.
When people ask how we met we joke that our mothers, who were already good friends, arranged our marriage. We went to the same high school, but because Theo is 5 years younger, did not meet for the first time until 15 years later on a visit home over the holidays. Joining our lives seemed destined. Not only did we find true love, but we also received the gift of a large family who are present, loving and supportive, whom we see often and who are excited about our decision to adopt.
Theo gives himself fully to what he loves, whether that is windsurfing, family, running, guitar, or working with children as an elementary school counselor. He has a great sense of humor and has been known to put on a goofy black 80’s wig and play guitar for the first graders. Theo is sensitive and fun loving and believes attitude is everything. He is also the kind of guy who works into the night to complete a project and you know that project is going to be good. Theo is the sturdy rock you hold on to in a storm.
Dawn can often be found learning a poem by heart while she mows the lawn, works in the garden or takes a walk. She leads writing workshops for a variety of communities, including women, caregivers and elders. Participants comment on how she is able to create a safe, sacred and nurturing space for them. Dawn’s natural ability to organize and her great love for beauty can be seen and felt when you walk into our home. Dawn is the sound of chimes on a warm fall breeze. She is the calm, certain light of morning.
Balance is important to us and we have consciously created abundant space in our lives for a child. Theo has his summers off and is home by late afternoon and Dawn can coordinate her part-time schedule. In addition, Dawn’s mother, Melody, a retired teacher, is eagerly waiting to move nearby to provide love and support. While we often spend free time playing in nature, we also love to spend weekends at home, which is in a quiet neighborhood near the river with dense trees and many parks. Our cat, Ellie, can often be seen chasing squirrels in the pear tree in our backyard.
We are very excited to give our home and our hearts to a child and to guide them on the journey of falling in love with themselves and with life. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. We are imagining the very best for you.
