Anoo and Vamshi
Greetings!
We’re tickled to introduce ourselves to you, as we step into the process of open adoption.
We are Anoo and Vamshi, mom and dad to a three-year-old son, Vehd—and a family eager to expand to include a baby! We live in a large Pacific Northwest city, near a large park wrapped around a small lake, in a house with a terraced garden and a backyard made for playing. We made our way to the United States from India in separate journeys as young adults, long before we met. After living in the United States for nearly fifteen years, we are both Indian and American, strongly connected to the people and places that make the Pacific Northwest home for us, and, at the same time, cherishing our families in India.
We live from our hearts. We pay attention to emotion, to intuition, to spirit. We aim to integrate work and play, home and adventure, family and community. The three of us are good companions to each other, making a life of laughter and joy, of intention and passion. What does our sweet, good life look like?
Playing! Golf and cycling. . . card games, board games . . . making music together, and dancing! We relish outdoor adventures, from climbing the heights of Mt. Kilimanjaro to rafting the depths of the Grand Canyon. We’re always on the lookout for glorious hikes to places that offer grand adventures to share with a child.
Cooking . . .We often create feasts to share with dear ones, and we have a standing invitation with our neighbors to join us anytime for dinner. We goof around as we cook, imagining ourselves as Iron Chefs, contestants on the TV show, given a few unlikely ingredients to combine into a tasty dish.
Growing food . . .Anoo recently asked Vamshi and Vehd to pick up some Asian pears at the grocery store; when they came home, they proudly announced, “We didn’t find Asian pears at the store, so we bought a tree to grow them!” Laughing, Anoo wasn’t surprised. We live between seeds and our stomachs. We grow food in our bountiful garden; harvest it to eat it fresh and to preserve it for the winter.
Celebrating the rhythms of the earth and the beauty of each season . . .We belong outdoors, as close to the natural world as we can be. We’d live in our yard if we could! Our family celebrations are linked to the natural world—a lantern walk in October to honor autumn’s darkness, a winter pilgrimage to snow.
Tinkering and building . . . Vehd is a builder, eager to take apart and rebuild just about everything he encounters. His passion for building has shaped our family life, so that we always seem to have something under construction at our house. When Vehd wants a new toy, his first instinct is to build rather than buy it!
At the heart of our family is our deep value for relationship. This is why we’ve chosen open adoption. We believe that adopted children deserve to know their birth parents right from the start, and that their relationships with both their birth and adoptive parents assure children that they are deeply loved.
We are eager to include a second child in our family—eager to expand our circle of relationships to include a baby and her or his birth family. We hope that our brief introduction gives you a sense of who we are. We invite you and your child to become part of our sweet life as a family, playing outside, sharing feasts, creating celebrations, building and inventing, sharing jokes and stories and laughter and love.
Warmly,
Anoo and Vamshi
