Andy and Doug
Hello!
We are Andy, Doug, and Anna, and we would like to thank you for taking the time to get a sense of who we are and the love and warmth that characterize our family. This is our second open adoption through OA&FS, and we are so excited about welcoming another child into our family.
We (Andy & Doug) met 19 years ago in college and have been in a loving, fun, and committed relationship ever since. Approximately four years ago, we welcomed Anna into our lives through an open adoption with Anna's wonderful mom, who lives in the Portland area. The love and enjoyment that Anna has brought us cannot be captured in words, and we are so excited to adopt another child for whom we will provide all of our love and support. Anna is also enthusiastic about being a big sister, and recently asked us for a baby bottle so she can practice with her dolls on how to hold and feed a baby.
Andy has a Master’s degree and works for the government analyzing trends in education. Doug has a Ph.D. and oversees biomedical research. Doug has also taught students from elementary school up through college. Both of our moms were teachers, and their positive influence is one of the many reasons we believe in the value of education. Anna just started pre-kindergarten and we look forward to her growing up to be whatever she wants to be.
Our parents and extended families are very important in our lives. Doug's parents visit for one week every month and Andy's parents, who live nearby, visit at least weekly. Holidays are big events and we have never missed a Thanksgiving with Andy's family or a Christmas with Doug's family. Our parents have been wonderful grandparents to Anna, and are thrilled about us adopting another child. We are very grateful for their love and support.
We live on a tree-lined street in a Washington, DC area neighborhood with lots of families with kids. We have established a great network with these families and anytime we walk outside, the neighborhood kids come right over on their tricycles and scooters to see if Anna wants to play (which of course she always does).
We are an active family that enjoys spending all of our time together. We have a passion for adventure and travel, and have visited countries as far off as Australia, Iceland, and Brazil. We also enjoy having fun at the many parks near our house. One of our favorite games to play is "dinosaur", where one of us pretends to be a dinosaur and chases the other two around until getting caught or reaching the safe zone on the playground set. On rainy days, we can typically be found at one of the many local museums or at the nearby indoor splash pool.
Although a one page letter cannot convey everything that we would like you to know about us, we simply want you to know that we are a loving family that enjoys adventure, learning, and fun. Most importantly, we truly love being parents and are bursting with excitement to welcome another child into our lives. After having gone through the open adoption process once before, we have the highest respect and admiration for the strength and generosity that you have in considering to place your child for adoption. We truly wish you well in selecting an adoptive family that will be best for both you and your child.
