Heather and Rob
Hello! We are Heather and Rob, and we’re excited to have this chance to “meet” you. We asked ourselves what we would want to know if we were sitting where you are. Here’s what we came up with:
We’re best friends. We love spending time together. From exploring the city to watching a movie to just sitting and talking. If it involves food, fun, culture, and adventure, we’ll find it. We love a good festival (even a not so good festival is still worth a shot). There are so many great things to do in the Pacific Northwest city we call home (the zoo! theater! museums! nickel arcades! scenic trails!), and we can’t wait to share that with a child. Especially Heather, who is looking forward to making all the crafts available only to parents – um, we mean kids – at these festivals. She’s the artist in the family.
We love meeting people and making friends. Heather will start a conversation with anyone who’s around. In fact, that’s how we met at a bookstore 10 years ago, and we’ve never run out of things to talk about in the eight years we’ve been married. Rob takes a bit longer to warm up, but it’s not long before he’s chiming in and winning hearts. We have a close knit group of friends who have become more like family, which we love. We have a small immediate family, but never lack for people who love us. The more the merrier. And Heather is the glue that keeps everyone together, always inviting friends – old and new – along on our adventures, texting to see how they’re doing, and calling just because.
Rob says Heather has a childlike sense of wonder that makes even the mundane things fun. And a nurturing nature that keeps us on track. She plans for the future and lives in the now. She’s incredibly focused, except at stores, where she’ll easily veer off course to ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh.’ Luckily Rob finds this charming… most of the time. She’s smart and witty, tells a great story (about any topic), and is extremely creative. She majored in television (watching TV for homework!) and has worked in the communications field her entire career, focusing on advertising and public affairs. She’s a great writer and planner, and has done a lot of freelance work over the years, allowing her to take time away from offices and honor her natural night owl tendencies, which is when she gets her best ideas.
Heather loves Rob’s calm nature, sense of humor, uncanny math skills, and ability to fix almost anything – including a bad day. Just being near him can make things seem better. He also knows a lot! He always seems to know the answer to any question – history, geography, mechanics, science. He’s an accountant (but not the boring kind) and Heather is always impressed by how much his clients and coworkers adore him. He loves good coffee, wine, and food, and makes a mean paella. He loves to be outdoors, especially when it’s hot and sunny (not often here!). He’s patient and he loves his kids – two of them who, he can hardly believe, are now technically considered “adults.” He’s excited to do it all again, this time with Heather who is bursting at the seams to finally become a mom. There’s so much we know we can give and teach a baby, mostly love and tolerance and how to achieve her dreams. We know that being her parents will help us achieve ours.
Open adoption just makes sense for us. We think it’s important to honor and nurture the lifelong connection between our child and her birth family, and we hope to form a close bond as well. We know our lives will all be so much richer for it. How can you have too many people who love you? We admire your courage in considering making an adoption plan for your child. We wish you all the best as you make your decision. By following your heart, we know you’ll make the choice that feels right to you.
Wishing you the best!
