Victoria and Carl

Hello!

We are Carl and Victoria. We are so excited at the thought of open adoption and having a child come into our life. We have talked about being parents from the moment we met 7 years ago. We believe that our current roles are to be each other’s biggest fan and to help give each other an awesome life. We are thrilled with the idea of doing the same for a child. Whether it is giving a child unconditional love, a fabulous education, exciting opportunities, or the support of our extended family and friends, we want to make sure we give them a solid foundation for a very happy life.

We met 7 years ago, mountain biking in Moab, Utah, and have been married for 5 years. Victoria does marketing for a kids’ educational software company (they teach kids how to read!) and is the extrovert of the family. She is quick to get friends to laugh, loves to bring folks together over good food, can get anyone to open up and talk, embraces hiking and biking, and believes that life is a fun adventure. Carl works for an importer of Spanish wines and is the artist in the family. He has a ton of patience, a soothing manner (skittish dogs instantly trust him), and immediately gives you the sense of a guy who will always be there for you. A winemaker and fine furniture maker by talent, he points out the art and beauty in the world wherever he is. When not planning another fun trip to take or a new museum to explore, he can be found in the kitchen creating something fabulous.

Victoria grew up in the Pacific Northwest and still has a lot of extended family (Italian!) and friends in the area. After babysitting her entire neighborhood during her childhood and having her high school years filled with punk music concerts, she was a dj on her college radio station at Stanford, tended bar at her college pub at Oxford (when she got a tattoo in London), went on to live in Chicago and San Francisco before making it back to the PNW. Carl grew up in the Midwest, went to college in Iowa, studied photography in Santa Barbara, made wine in California and Australia, got best in show at woodworking school in Northern California, and moved to Moab where he ran into Victoria.

Together we create a warm household and an environment of laughter for our friends. We live in a beautiful, large old house in one of the oldest neighborhoods near the downtown area of our city. We are two blocks from a children’s park and a swimming beach, where in the summertime you’ll see kids of many cultures hanging out together. Neighbors are constantly visiting each other’s houses, people walk their dogs and stop to talk to kids playing on the street, and for Halloween we get up to 200 kids trick-or-treating at our house.

We love adventure! We love to travel, to see new places, to experience new cultures and to just really appreciate this wonderful world. We have been lucky enough to swim with penguins in the Galapagos, bike up mountains in Italy, France and Thailand, trek with yaks in Bhutan, be invited into monasteries in Laos, and visit family in Japan. We want to be able to share this world of fun adventure with any child we raise. We plan to raise a child with the best education and healthcare possible, a never-ending supply of hugs, a love of life, and the values of mutual respect and kindness – all things that stay with you throughout your life. Our family and friends also pledge to always be there in a pinch to help, give love and bring laughter. Open adoption just feels perfect to us. We look forward to the birth parent families adding to the circle of family and friends that will be there to support a child.

We are inspired by your strength and commitment to your child’s future. We promise to nurture and love him or her and to be their biggest fan!

We look forward to having a chance to meet you.

Warm regards,

Carl and Victoria
