Tamara and Asa
Dear Expectant Parent(s),
Hello, we are Asa, Tamara and Max. We love spending time together as a family, going on fun outings like sledding, bumper bowling, or riding bikes to the ice cream store. Other times you’ll find us at home jumping on the trampoline, folding origami, or playing board games in our pajamas (even though it’s past noon). It is the simple everyday pleasures and moments of connection with each other – chatting over breakfast, blowing dandelion puffs around the yard, sharing our hopes and joys with each other – that bring us the greatest happiness. It is these moments that, for us, make family life rich beyond measure.
We absolutely love being parents! As parents, we strive to give our kids the freedom to discover their passions and their paths in life, while providing them with the love, support and opportunities they need to achieve what is most in their hearts. We can’t wait to meet and learn about the little person who will join our family next, to rejoice in the spark that makes him or her unique, and to figure out how we can best nurture that spark. Without a doubt, we know that we will listen with attention, speak with respect, laugh with our bellies, and always love our kids for who they are.
Our 21-year relationship has always been a great source of joy and strength for us, and continues to grow and deepen every day. Our life as a couple is relaxed, fun, silly, and very loving. When we come across challenges in life, we face them together, with calmness and resiliency, and the faith that when one door closes another always opens.
As for us as individuals, Asa spends his days as a software engineer. Though a highly skilled and valued member of his work team, he’s a devoted dad who makes it a priority to have lots of time to relax and play with family. Asa likes to read for his bookgroup, watch Caprica and Flash Forward, play his Scottish bagpipes, and puzzle out problems in Games magazine. The qualities that most people notice in Asa right away are that he is loving, gentle, honest, thoughtful, nonjudgmental, and playful.
Tamara has the best job she could ever hope for – being a stay at home mom. Prior to that, she worked as a registered nurse and as a genetics researcher. She feels grateful that family is what fills her days and her heart now. Tamara loves sharing her joy of learning with Max and finding new opportunities and adventures for our family. She also enjoys reading good books, eating chocolate, and watching Project Runway. Some of the best words to describe Tamara are warm, open-minded, curious, optimistic, steadfast, and easy-going.
Max is ten years old. He enjoys playing imaginary games with his friends, programming video games, walking on stilts, creating animated movies, and having sleepovers. He’s also an avid reader of everything from Calvin and Hobbes to the Percy Jackson series. Max is gentle, cuddly, silly, smart, generous, and very eager to become a big brother. He loves younger kids – he has great fun giggling at the goofy faces our friends’ babies make, being chased and tackled by his two-year-old cousin, and helping his four-year-old cousin bake cookies and draw letters.
We are grateful that the infertility we experienced after Max was born opened our eyes to the world of open adoption. We are filled with joy and excitement knowing that we are adding to our family in that way. Through our strong relationship with Asa’s birth niece, we understand that a child can never have too much family or too much love. We look forward to welcoming not only a baby into our lives, but also all those who will love and support him or her on the journey through life. We send you our warm wishes as you thoughtfully consider the best plan for you and your little one.
