Stacy and John
Dear Birthparent,
Funny how neither of us could have imagined the situation we are in right now. But, strangely enough some of the best things in life are unplanned. I know when we dreamt of starting a family, adoption wasn’t our first consideration. But now we are filled with hope and excitement to bring a second child into our lives.
We’re Stacey & Jon. We’ve been married for over 8 years and together for nearly 16. We are best buddies, soul-mates, and we’ve always known we would be parents. We have a lot of fun together - we travel, hike, fly-fish, ski and garden – all kinds of things that are great to do in the Pacific Northwest.
We’ve spent the last several years working hard– Jon is a physician (he’s the doctor who puts patients to sleep during surgery.) Stacey does freelance work in advertising to create television commercials and websites. We both were fulfilled by our jobs, but have been able to slow down and enjoy the fulfillment that only comes from being parents.
If you were to ask Stacey what makes Jon unique she would say:
- He’s the most unpretentious & ego-less physician you’ll ever meet
- Jon loves tartar sauce more than anyone on the planet
- He’s a great teacher – Jon knows how to make complicated information easy to understand
- Jon’s objective when watching TV is to learn – Discovery Channel, PBS, TLC – unless “The Godfather” is on
If you were to ask Jon what makes Stacey unique he would say:
- She’s optimistic and enthusiastic even when life seems rough
- Stacey has a habit of twisting her hair when she’s tired or nervous
- She spends more time wrapping a present than actually buying it
- Stacey loves to entertain – whether friends or family – especially all the cooking & planning
Open adoption is right for us because it’s built on trust and good communication – two things we value in our relationship. We want to build a relationship that’s right for you, and most importantly right for your child. And that’s the thing we like most about open adoption – it’s about the child. We’ve been fortunate enough to experience this first-hand with our daughter Josephine and her birthparents Samantha & Bryan. The openness and joy of this relationship has exceeded all of our expectations.
What we want are probably the same things you want for your child: a family where fun and humor are an everyday routine, a good education, and an atmosphere where a child can develop his or her talents naturally, free from pressure with an appreciation of who they are.
Thank you for reading our letter.
Jon & Stacey
