Nate and Carl
We are Nate (left side), Carl (right) and Isaac. Our time as parents the past 2 ½ years has been the most joyous and rewarding experience of our lives. We cherish the opportunity we’ve had to bring our son and his birth family into our lives and are now ready to grow our family.
We have been together for 14 years after having met one night by chance in a bar and immediately hitting it off with our shared love for movies, the arts, food and having fun. We were married in the state of California in 2008. With Isaac in our arms we were able to solidify our commitment to one another with our closest friends and family at our side.
Together we enjoy traveling to new places and sharing good meals with friends. As a family, we enjoy retreating to our cabin in the San Juan Islands for adventures in the woods and on the beach. We also love taking part in the vibrant arts scene the city has to offer and exposing Isaac to all the wonders and energy of music, film, theater and dance that have always a major influence in both our lives.
We both grew up in the area and have a large network of friends and family nearby whom we constantly draw on for love, support and the occasional parenting advice. We are fortunate to have many close friends also raising young children whom we regularly share in the joy, laughter and chaos of parenting. This includes frequent playground dates, pizza parties and great beach explorations at our cabin. As parents we believe in the importance of education, the fostering of individualism and values of charity and compassion. We believe it does take the efforts of our extended family and close friends to successfully raise a child and we value and invite in the love each person has for our children.
Carl works as the Artistic Director of a major Seattle arts organization. His job takes him to many different parts of the world and brings home with him new experiences and perspectives. He has a playful nature and soul, and loves to get down on the floor with Isaac to play games and get silly. Nate works in a director role for a Seattle retail company. He is very creative and has a strong passion for music. He loves to make up songs for he and Isaac to sing together and dream up art projects to do around the house. He also loves to entertain guests and continually bake goodies for them. While together we create a perfect union, we are very different as individuals. Carl is very organized, Nate not so much. Carl loves his tech toys, while Nate has problems navigating the remote control. Carl loves the free form nature of cooking, and Nate loves the precision of baking. Carl is a taskmaster, Nate is a great procrastinator. Nate loves long deep conversations, Carl is a man of fewer words.
Isaac has an energetic spirit and a heart of gold. He is a master cuddler and a great entertainer. He is always looking for a playmate or an audience. Building a relationship with Isaac’s birth family has added a great new dimension to our lives. We have enjoyed being able to share birthdays and events with them and have particularly loved strengthening our relationship with Isaac’s birthmom as she graduated high school and continued her journey with going to her top choice for university studies.
