Melodee and Sue

Melodee and Sue

Hi! We are Melodee (on the right) and Sue (on the left). Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We are so excited to begin this journey with you, and to share in this amazing experience together. In case you have lots of questions, here is a little bit about us:

We like adventures and we do our best to incorporate them into our daily lives together. They might be anything from going for a Saturday afternoon run on a new trail, to traveling to Costa Rica, to going to the soccer World Cup (someday)! As parents we are excited about sharing our adventures with a child. We understand, though, that each child is unique and will have his or her own interests, likes, and dislikes. Our ultimate goal is to raise a child who will grow to be happy, kind, and who knows that they are loved.

So a little more about each of us... Melodee grew up on a farm in western Washington and loves living in the city suburbs. Sue grew up in a suburb back east and loves the idea of living on a farm in the Pacific Northwest. However, she admits that she has no concept of how much work it takes. Melodee has a designated place for everything she has and can probably tell you the name, artist, and order of the songs on her iPod. Sue has no idea where to find her iPod. Together, we manage to find the time to accomplish the things we value and that connect us, like going to a soccer game, planting a tree, or visiting family and friends. We look forward to sharing these experiences with you as well. We live in a quiet neighborhood close to parks and trails, and Sue’s cousin lives just up the street. We have spent a lot of time making our new house a home.

Melodee is a kind, thoughtful, and compassionate person. As a child therapist at a non-profit agency, she puts into practice what she believes at heart. Melodee’s goal is to improve her life and the lives of others. Sometimes this means doing her job well by helping youth set and reach their goals. A few years ago it meant traveling to Sri Lanka to help families recover after the Asian tsunami. In October 2009 it meant accomplishing her personal goal of training and finishing her first marathon.

Sue is usually quiet and considerate, and she has a great sense of humor. She works as an accountant/auditor, and while it isn’t always the most glamorous job, she focuses on finding ways to learn something new each day and share her knowledge with others. Sue is always up for a challenge, like figuring out something new about the computer or devising a method to feed all three dogs without the situation erupting in total chaos.

From the very beginning of our relationship we talked a lot about family and what it could look like. We explored different avenues, which eventually lead us to open adoption. Open adoption stuck primarily because it reflects our values around open communication, honesty, and what truly defines a family. We are very excited about becoming parents and welcoming you and your family into our lives.
