Melissa and Kevin

Melissa and Kevin

Hello!

We are Melissa, Kevin, Jackson and Lucky (he is the cute black lab below). We would like to thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We greatly admire your courage, strength, and selflessness in considering adoption for your child. It is our hope that you will find peace and comfort with your decision. We would be honored to get to know you and would like to offer you our support and friendship.

We met at a wedding in May 1999 in Washington DC. We both thought each other cute, but did not pursue anything until Kevin moved to the Northwest for a career change; although, Melissa still teases him that his move was also motivated by the hope of hanging out with her. Regardless, it turned out to be a happy ending. We were married July 4, 2003 on Mt. Hood at Timberline Lodge. Being on the mountain, surrounded by our family and friends as we announced our love for each other, was truly spectacular. Our marriage is built on love and laughter, and we compliment each other well. Melissa is the planner and organizer of our family: she would have a program on her iphone for every household project if she could. On the other hand, Kevin is laid-back, which is great because he doesn’t stress over things, and still gets a lot done with plenty of time remaining to have fun.

We both have jobs that compliment our personalities too. Kevin, the brainy one, works at an insurance company in retirement plans, and we joke that after three years of working there, Melissa still can’t really understand what he does. Melissa, the sensitive one, works for the local school district as a school counselor. Melissa loves working with kids, and her schedule allows her to spend a lot of time playing with their amazing son, Jackson. Jackson, who we call Jack, was born on February 1, 2007, and we adore him. He is funny, caring, sensitive, intuitive, and deeply loving. We know he will be a great big brother; he loves younger children and is always asking our neighbors to hold their babies, which he does with incredible care and pride. Jack enjoys a lot of activities, most of which involve outside play like walking Lucky in the park, pushing his wagon around the block, and lining up his toy car collection in the rock garden in front of our house.

As a family, in the spring, summer, and fall, we enjoy bike riding, going to the zoo, having picnics in the park, attending outdoor music festivals, and walking Lucky around the neighborhoods of Portland. On rainy days, we enjoy watching movies and playing games. We both have a competitive edge especially when it comes to Scrabble and Backgammon. We absolutely love to travel, which is great because we have family all over the country, and Melissa’s sister and her family live in Spain so we are able to travel outside of the country too! We often try to get away for day trips or even weekend trips. Kevin is a history buff, and Melissa loves to take pictures so new sights are always being sought.

After we got through the first six months of raising Jack we began a discussion about having another child. When we found that we would be unable to conceive another child, we knew that we wanted to have an open adoption so that we would be able to celebrate and love another child as well as his or her birth family. We strive to raise Jack with honesty, respect, and love, and our plan is to do the same with another child.

Should you entrust us with raising your child, we will draw upon our experience with raising Jack to guide your child along a similar path that will be filled with love, adventure and lots of laughter. We are excited about the opportunity to establish a warm, caring, and open relationship with a birth family, and we are so excited about bringing another precious child into our lives. We can certainly promise you a very loving, happy home with two devoted parents, a very energetic big brother, and a sweet black lab. We wish you the best with your decision and on your life’s journey.
