Margi and Scott

Hello!

Our names are Scott and Margi, and this little guy is our son, Owen. We’d like to tell you about ourselves, but first, we want you to know how much we respect the strength and courage you are showing by considering adoption for your child. We truly feel adoption is an act of love for everyone involved.

When we married in September of 1999, we never dreamed the road to parenthood would be a long and bumpy one. We felt so blessed when Owen entered our lives in January of 2007. The concept of open adoption was new to us, so we were thrilled to have experienced such a wonderful connection with Owen’s birthmother. Our mutual love for Owen has brought our families together forever. We are very excited for our family to grow again with the adoption of our second child.

We both work at local hospitals, but we don’t have Owen in daycare. We wanted our children to grow up in a stable environment surrounded by family, so a few years ago we bought a home with Margi’s parents. This may sound unconventional, but it made sense to us. Between the four of us, we have financial security, plus one or more of us are always home to provide child care and love. Owen has thrived by having Grandma Janice and Grandpa Bill around on a daily basis! Plus, more help around the house means we get to spend more quality time with each other.

We have plenty of room to stretch out since our home was remodeled to allow Grandma and Grandpa to have their own in-law suite. The house sits on over five and a half acres of land with a view of nearby hills (mountains to us!), a big red barn and a huge yard for kids and dogs to run and play. Our two dogs, Phoebe and Chloe, love to romp through the grassy field with Owen not far behind.

Scott enjoys being outside, whether tinkering in the barn or kicking around a soccer ball. He is originally from Sheffield, England, so he loves the game. He also spends time listening to music, playing basketball, and collecting basketball shoes. Sometimes he even comes up with his own shoe designs! Margi would describe him as the strong, silent type, as Scott tends to be quiet and shy in public. But with family and friends, he opens up and his laughter always makes people smile. He is a great Dad who doesn’t mind being silly, so you can often hear him and Owen laughing as they play together.

Margi loves motherhood, since her lifelong dream has always been to be a Mom. She has wonderful memories of her childhood while growing up in Northeast Ohio and wishes the same for her kids. Scott would describe Margi as intelligent, creative and full of love. She has a kind nature, so she tends to make friends easily. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoys making things. Crafts, quilts, baking, you name it. To relax, you might find her reading a good book or watching a sappy romantic comedy. She also loves to take pictures, so there is never a shortage of family photos!

Of course most of those photos are of Owen. He is an amazing, sweet child who is quick to smile and laugh. He’s your average active toddler: curious, fearless and fast! He has a great sense of humor and loves books and music. He often stops to dance to a beat when he hears a good song. He is quite social and very good at sharing his toys and snacks. Since he loves being around other children, we know he is going to be a great big brother someday. He has already shown us he is very sensitive and caring... and he sure gives great hugs and kisses!

Our family is filled with laughter, hugs, warmth, and love, as well as learning and educational opportunities. Open adoption has been a natural fit for us. We feel there can never be too many people to love a child.

Thank you for taking the time to consider our family. Take care of yourself!
