Lisa and Rick

Lisa and Rick

Hello!

We met “online” in December of 1999. I was amazed how much we had in common – upbringing, morals, music, movies, and so much more. We had our first telephone conversation in February of 2000 and talked for 6 ½ hours. It was amazing how easily the conversation flowed and how we didn’t have any of those awkward silent moments.

Rick lived in a Chicago suburb and I lived in Iowa so we were 4 ½ hours apart. We were talking one night and I mentioned my family and friends were getting together to celebrate my birthday and he said, “What time should I be there?” Of course, I thought he was joking. He wasn’t! So, on our “first date” he met my family and many friends as well. Fortunately, he passed with flying colors! During our long distance relationship, we took turns driving each weekend for a year and a half while I finished my degree and then I moved to Chicago in 2001. We tied the knot in September of 2003. In 2006, we added Gracie and Max, our two dogs, to our home.

I would describe Rick as loyal, sincere, funny, honest, intelligent, and kind. He makes me want to be a better person. I can have a bad day and it just rolls away when I see his big smile and him saying, “Hi, Pumpkin.” He has a big heart and is willing to help anyone. I love it when he laughs because it makes me laugh too. Rick has a degree in Computer Science. He is a software engineer and loves to read about and work with technology like computers, the internet or any new gadgets. He also loves cooking, cars, NASCAR, NFL Football, television, movies, comedy clubs, woodworking and digital photography.

Lisa is an amazing person. She is bright, compassionate, hard-working and honest with a contagious laugh and smile. Lisa has a degree in Business. She works as a benefits administrator. Lisa is very involved in creative hobbies like scrap-booking, jewelry and card-making. She also loves to decorate our home. She is also a bit of a sports fan and enjoys television and movies too. We love getting together with family and friends for a meal at home or an evening out for dinner and a movie. We recently moved to this area and are continuing to explore all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

We are drawn to an open adoption because it makes sense to us. We want to do everything possible to raise a healthy, confident, kind, compassionate, and secure child. A big part of that is for them to know their birth family and know that they can ask questions as they come up. Lisa’s father was adopted by his step-father and does not know his birth father. He’s had many questions over the years that could have easily been answered with a phone call, email or get together. We also define family as having relationships with those that we love and that love us. We are Aunt Lisa and Uncle Rick to many children of our friends.

All of our family and friends are so happy that we are on this journey and are anxious to meet you. We have a very loving home and are excited about the opportunity to share the life, love and laughter we have with others.

We admire you for your strength and courage to share the precious gift of a life with us. We know this is not an easy decision and we wish you peace on this journey.

With love,

Lisa & Rick
