Chrysia and Andrew
Hello! We are Andrew and Chrysia (rhymes with Tricia), and we’ll do our best to give you some good info about ourselves as you make this huge decision.
We’ve been married since 2000 after meeting in college. Along the way in our marriage we’ve added to our family… first came our orange cat Diego, then our black cat Ania, our ridiculously small dog Abigail, and then our son Milo, who was born in the spring of 2008 and adopted through OA&FS. We live in a city in the Pacific Northwest, in a neighborhood full of children and grandmas, with lots of things to do and explore.
Our marriage is unique in that it is totally equal and not defined by traditional roles. We spend almost all our non-working time together as a family, and we love it that way. Although we have our own interests (Andrew is a huge sports fan and Chrysia loves to read), our favorite thing is to be together. We love being outside camping, hiking, or kayaking. We enjoy home improvement projects, from remodeling our kitchen to installing new flooring, and we are always planning our next endeavor. Our faith is important to us and we enjoy attending church as a family. We love to travel, and Milo has already journeyed all over the country. When Milo was born our goal was to continue doing what we love with him, and we think we’ve done a good job of that.
Andrew was trained as a research scientist but now works on the business end of science doing contract negotiations and technology licensing. It’s a hard job to explain, but he loves it. Chrysia is a social worker who spends her days with young kids and their families. She used to work at an adoption agency working with birth and adoptive parents, so she has a unique perspective on this process and an incredible understanding of all the emotions involved. She’s always after opportunities to speak Spanish, and she thinks she could someday be fluent with a bit of practice.
We’re really close to our families, who live in Washington, California, Colorado, and New York (all very nice vacation spots!). They’re so eager to have a new baby in the family that they can’t stop talking about it. We were so amazed at how fully and immediately they embraced Milo as part of the family. We’re also looking forward to welcoming you into our extended family. We have been so humbled and honored to know and regularly visit with Milo’s birth family.
We’re thrilled to become parents again and we’ll continue to do our best to do a great job. We want to be with our children as much as possible, and are committed to structuring our lives and work around that. Milo currently attends a small in-home daycare two days a week, where he learns a lot and plays hard. When our next child arrives, Chrysia is hoping to stay home full time, although there’s a chance she’ll work a bit. So far we’ve been able to rearrange our schedules so that we have lots of time together, including dinner together every night. We’ll both take time off when our child arrives, and Andrew has plenty of job flexibility to be around a lot. No matter what, the focus of our lives will be our children, as it has been since Milo was born.
Through Chrysia’s work in adoption and our experiences thus far with Milo, we have had the amazing opportunity to see and hear just how beautiful open adoption can be, and we are so excited to have it happen again in our lives. Our hope is that you too find amazement and beauty as you discover what is meant to be for you and your child.
With all our best wishes,
Chrysia and Andrew (and Milo!)
