Cheryl and Mark
Hi,
We’re Mark and Cheryl. Our lives are filled with laughter and adventure, friends and family, a dog who thinks he’s a person, a cat who thinks he’s a dog, and a plant that’s afraid of the sun. We live in a family-oriented community, with good schools and parks, in a house with a big fenced yard. Our dog Tazzie is a big goofball and has an obsession with socks -- he will steal them right off your feet! Our cat Branicky likes to raid the laundry basket and drag dirty clothes all around the house, especially when we have company over.
We find humor in everyday life and are always laughing! Summer will find us on our boat, exploring little coastal towns, crabbing with friends, or sampling new flavors of ice cream. Everyone always ends up at our house for cookouts, big family dinners, or Rock Band parties. Winters will find us playing in the snow with Tazzie or heading to the sun -- snorkeling in Hawaii or collecting seashells in Mexico.
Mark describes Cheryl as creative, funny and adventurous, but she’ll get cold if the temperature drops below 72 degrees! Cheryl has always loved kids and worked for many years as a nanny and preschool teacher. She also taught children’s theatre classes and made all the sets and costumes herself. Now she works for a large online travel company. An avid traveler, she’s been to over 20 countries and is always planning the next big trip. Her family has a history in Hollywood, so she’s always been interested in movies. She also likes to write screenplays, watch bad reality shows, or hack things in the garden. She is looking forward to becoming a stay-at-home mom, reading bedtime stories, constructing art projects, and helping with homework.
Cheryl describes Mark as patient, kind, and a bit stubborn -- if you tell him to zig, he’ll zag! Music has always been part of Mark’s family, and he even has a relative in a famous band. Mark has worked for a large software company for the past 10 years. Before that, he was an architect, so he’s always working on home improvement projects. He’s yet to meet a power tool he didn’t like! He’s excited to have a little helper to hold the tape measure. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, computers, Xbox, boating, skiing, and hiding his candy stash from Cheryl.
Celebrating holidays is big in our house. Cheryl’s birthday is on Halloween, so carving pumpkins is an annual event with friends. At Christmas, we like to have family or friends over to decorate the tree or make gingerbread houses. Another family tradition is celebrating the 4th of July on a nearby island. Mark’s parents live right on the bay, and we take our boat up with friends to watch the fireworks. We throw out crab pots, comb the beach for clams, and BBQ up the catch. Our young niece and nephew love to spend time on the island, and they always have fun activities to do, such as fishing, swimming, or just painting rocks. They are looking forward to having a cousin to play with!
We’re excited about the opportunity to become parents. We’re eager to expose a child to all that life has to offer. We look forward to helping him or her discover their own interests and nurture their own talents, whether in music, sports, dance, science, or art. We’ll provide a safe, loving, and supportive environment, filled with unconditional love, to give them the self-confidence and courage to flourish and grow.
We look forward to developing an open and honest relationship with a birth family, and hope that they will feel comfortable becoming part of our extended family.
