Bill and Rob

Bill and Rob

Hello,

We are Bill (on the left) and Rob, and we’ve been together for 14 incredible years. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us.

Life has been very good in the last few years, allowing us to build a home for ourselves in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by a loving extended family, amazing friends and a couple goofy cats. We are eager to share all this love and good fortune as our family grows.

Rob is the funny one with the dark sense of humor, the guy who keeps you laughing. He has a gift for hands-on projects, from fixing plumbing disasters to designing giant mosaics out of broken dishes. His love for learning about cultures led him to become a doctor of anthropology this past year. Bill is the guy who makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He loves entertaining family and friends, and laughing at all the jokes he and Rob share. Bill recently got his first novel published, a coming-of-age story about basketball, and he’s now working on a “robots & pirates” novel for kids. We both enjoy all kinds of music, from soul to hip hop to weird alternative stuff. We love camping, skiing, and snowboarding, and hitting the tennis ball around in the evening.
Bill cooks his grandmother’s secret Italian recipes; Rob enjoys eating them. At the end of the day, it’s nice to curl up at home and watch a movie with the cat brothers, Ragnar and Caruso, who follow us everywhere.

We’re excited to expose our child to all the things we love in life. We want to take our son or daughter on nature hikes and visits to the zoo. We look forward to working on art projects and reading books on the sun porch. We will be making lots of trips to the local playground, a popular spot for all the children in our kid-friendly neighborhood. We will help our child learn through the daily routines of checking homework and setting up good study habits. As new parents, we look forward to a lot of the ordinary stuff too: tending to colds and tummy aches, choosing school supplies, talking around the kitchen table, finishing the day with a bedtime story, all the important things that make a child feel loved and secure.

During the week, we’re fortunate to have jobs with flexible hours, jobs that we like that also feel worthwhile. Bill works in an after-school reading program, splitting his day between office time and story time. Rob manages a research team in a nearby hospital and previously worked with homeless teens at a city youth shelter. We’ve loved our experiences with children, playing with them and watching them grow, and we can’t wait to share our love with our own child.

Friends have always been important to us, and we’re lucky to have friends of all ages and backgrounds. We’re also thankful to have great neighbors in a tight-knit community. Our extended families love and support us, and we’re lucky to live so close to so many relatives. We enjoy babysitting our young niece and nephew, playing elaborate games with stuffed animals and reading Dr. Seuss books. Our child will spend lots of time with all the wonderful women in our life. Rob’s aunts are close friends, fellow artists and hiking buddies. Our two-year-old niece is a warm, adventurous free-spirit. Our incredible women friends will continue to share their love, strength and humor with our family.

We appreciate you taking the time to read this letter, as we’re strongly committed to the idea of open adoption. We want our child to know how much love has always been in his or her life, and open adoption will help make this clear. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We look forward to learning about you!
