OA&FS Prospective Adoptive Families - Dear Birthparents Letter
From Libby, Don and Cooper
Dear Birthparents,
Thanks so much for giving us a chance to introduce ourselves. We are Don, Libby and Cooper-who we adopted through open adoption two and a half years ago. We’re a relatively young family (young at heart, anyway) who are so excited to add another child to our family! We can only hope our words in this letter will give you a good feel for what we're like, and if we would be right for you and your baby.
As couple we just seem to fit. We met eight years ago on a crazy blind date, and we've been going strong ever since! Libby even hummed the song "Tonight I Met The Man I’m Going To Marry" at the end of our first date. We respect and support each other every step of the way.
Don is best described as fun-loving, laid-back and great with kids. All our nieces and nephews get so excited when he walks in the door. Don loves motorcycles, golf, and Labrador Retrievers. Our 6 month old puppy, Nelly, is his latest love. Don runs his own Internet company which sells motorcycle gear and parts. He started the business from the ground up, and now has 75 employees. He gets to set his own hours and comes home a lot to help with Cooper. Libby is best described as independent, funny and smart—even though she has her "strawberry blond" moments. She loves goofing off with friends and traveling, but most of all, she likes hanging out at home with Don, Cooper, a big bowl of ice cream and a good DVD. Libby works as a news anchor at one of the local TV stations part-time. She has an adventurous spirit and loves meeting new people. She got her fearless attitude and love for the spotlight from dancing and acting as a kid.
We knew right after we got married we couldn't have kids. We now believe we were led to open adoption for a reason. Parenting Cooper has been the most amazing experience. The day he was born was one of the most exciting days of our lives, and it's been more wonderful than we ever imagined. We have an ongoing relationship with Cooper's birth mom and birth dad, even though they live in different cities. We talk about them a lot, too. We want Cooper to always know how loved he is, by ALL his family.
Our home is nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac in one of the best neighborhoods in town. Our small city is surrounded by the forested green hills of Southern Oregon. We live a block from an elementary school where we take Cooper and Nelly to play. On the weekends, you'll find us walking together to the park or tinkering around the house. We often have friends and their kids over to hang out in our big back yard. Since most of Don's family lives nearby, we see them often. Libby's parents live at the coast, right on the water, and Cooper loves to spend hours at the beach.
Our hope is to raise children who have the best of both worlds (birthparents and adoptive parents). We've always dreamed of having a little girl, and we can't describe the feeling we get when we imagine it. Only know, we want what's best for you, too. You can feel safe with us and know we'll love your baby with all our hearts. Good luck!
Yours Truly,
Don, Libby & Cooper
