OA&FS Prospective Adoptive Families - Dear Birthparents Letter
From Beth, Mike and Amelia
Dear Birthparents:
Our child, Amelia, was adopted four years ago through Open Adoption and Family Services. We know from a close and respectful relationship with her birthmother that you are making a difficult decision.
We are Beth, Mike, and Amelia. We are looking forward to sharing our life with another child. We have a lot of laughs and adventures together. Amelia has brought us more joy than we could have imagined.
We are not naive to the fact that Amelia has been a very easy child to raise. She spoke clearly very early and has an easy-going nature. Yet she can be easily frustrated learning something she thinks she should know more quickly. Amelia goes to “school” in Mike’s building. She is learning and enjoys being read to. She’s gentle with her younger and smaller schoolmates.
Amelia believes she wants a brother or sister, although she asks for an older brother. She has an older birth sister who she sees, so we’ll have plenty of family dynamics to discuss as the children age. She’s looking forward to a baby coming to live at our house.
Mike is the chair of Amelia’s daycare. His full time job is working in automation for a federal trade and law enforcement organization. His co-workers are all over the nation and manage to lighten each others’ days with humor. Mike is a voracious reader: science, politics, mystery, and biographies. Mike finds it all interesting and remembers so many details of what he reads that friends defer to him on trivia. He is also the household chef. His Italian heritage shines through in his healthy, tasty, and generous meals.
Beth works four days a week at a federal environmental organization doing computer work; web pages and databases. That leaves “All Momma Monday” for mother and daughter to take classes and enjoy each other‘s company. We’ve taken Yoga, swim, dance and drama classes. Some days we bake, go to the park or do errands. Beth practices Yoga regularly. She has excellent sewing skills. Of late, her creativity is expressed through photography, photo manipulation and watercolor painting. She also dabbles in genealogy. Our walls are getting filled with Beth’s art and old family photos.
When not working or learning, we enjoy adventures and playing with family and friends. This includes traveling to a nearby city to see birth mother and sister, cousins, and siblings, zoo and aquarium visits, pumpkin patch explorations, and family vacations to Vancouver, BC and Italy.
There were so many coincidences surrounding Amelia’s adoption that made it feel so right. We hope you find comfort in finding a family that feels like a good fit for your child. We are eager to enter into our next open adoption relationship. We wish you the very best in your decision and your future.
