OA&FS Prospective Adoptive Families - Dear Birthparents Letter

From Mary and Guenther

Dear Birthparent(s):
We admire your courage and determination as you face important decisions about your child's future and consider making an adoption plan.

Our names are Guenther and Mary. We live in Western Washington and have been married for six years. It has long been our dream to become parents, but after working with a fertility clinic for three years we learned that we are unable to have biological children. We still have an abundance of love to share with a child and, after much thought and prayer, it is our desire to build our family through open adoption.

We live in a wooded area where families with children and pets area common sight. Our home has a big yard with plenty of room to run and play. Birds, squirrels, chipmunks, wild rabbits, and raccoons live in the woods right behind our house and visit us often. We find our home to be a relaxing retreat after a busy day. Nearby are also several parks and playgrounds, as well as a large lake enjoyed by families year round.

In the winter we attend swing, salsa, waltz and Contra (folk) dances together. Renting movies is another fun activity during those rainy months. Springtime ushers in the baseball season, when we look forward to eating hotdogs and watching a homerun fly over the center field fence. The Mariners are our favorite team. In the summer we love to hike and spend time lots of time enjoying the outdoors. Every summer we vacation at one of the National Parks. Whether in the wilderness of Alaska or in the mountains of Oregon, we enjoy the adventure of exploring the great outdoors and watching all kinds of wildlife.

Guenther has a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and works for a local county agency as a social worker. His interests include following his favorite sports teams, listening to a variety of music, and playing the guitar. He is always up for a hike in the mountains and treasures fun camping trips with family and friends. His friends know him for his kind heart, kid-like enthusiasm, and listening ear.

Mary is currently working at a private non-profit school as an accounting manager. She will switch to being a full-time stay-at-home mom in a heartbeat when we adopt! Mary loves several forms of dance from belly dancing to ballroom, but Irish dancing is her favorite. In fact, Mary has performed for three years in an Irish dance troop. Scrap booking, drinking coffee with friends, and reading historical novels also fill her days. Family and friends would describe Mary as dependable, caring and energetic.

As parents we will provide a safe, loving, and secure environment for a child to grow, learn and explore. We have delighted in building a special bond with our niece and nephew as they grow up, and being around them and other children has only deepened our desire to become parents. We were both raised in Christian homes and continue to practice our Catholic faith to this day. We believe our faith in God's love is the foundation of our marriage, and it plays an important part in our daily lives.

Thank you for reading our letter. We can hardly wait to become parents and feel that open adoption is a beautiful way to build a family.

Sincerely, Mary & Guenther
