Adoptive Parent Gatherings

Below are dates for upcoming adoptive parent gatherings in several cities. Please call OA&FS for location (usually an adoptive parent's home or the OA&FS office), further details and to RSVP. All adoptive parent clients -- whether in the pool, in mediation or those who have already adopted -- are welcome and encouraged to attend these socials and discussion groups.

PORTLAND
Portland-area gatherings are held every few months. They alternate between kid-friendly, informal potluck dinners and adults-only discussion groups with no dinner served.

Meeting date: The next meeting will be a presentation about infant massage provided by Diana Moore, MS, LMT, CIMI, and founder of International Loving Touch. It is scheduled for Wednesday, January 17, 2007, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will be open to all interested OA&FS adoptive parents.

Gay/Lesbian Family Group: Our Families Group is coordinated by an OA&FS adoptive family for GLBT families who have adopted or are waiting to adopt. It meets on a monthly basis.

EUGENE
Eugene-area gatherings for adoptive and waiting families are held approximately every two months. Events alternate between informational forums for adults to kid-friendly gatherings. Additional gatherings are offered based on the number of waiting families in the area. When family gatherings are not being offered, we facilitate family connections and community building for independent get-togethers, such as potlucks and play dates.

SEATTLE
Seattle-area adoptive parent meetings alternate between discussion groups for waiting families and kid-friendly potluck socials. Gatherings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, except for the months of June, July, and August.

Meeting dates: Gatherings are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month. However, the January meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007. The meeting will be a tour of a care facility for infants with prenatal drug exposure. The regular meeting schedule will resume on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, with a meeting about holistic infant care.

Transracial Adoption Support Group: Transracial Adoption Support Group is coordinated by an OA&FS adoptive family and meetings are held every other month on the second Sunday. Please contact the agency for information about the next meeting.
